It was a toss up on who was having more fun on that chilly October night at The Cowan; Michael Franti or the crowd that knew every word to every song he played. Running barefoot from one side of the stage to the other with an acoustic guitar, Franti interacted with the enthusiastic crowd as he sang his hits and newly released music. From kids as young as four years old to adults, the audience loved every moment of Franti’s reggae-rock set.
Although it was his concert, Franti shared the spotlight with his fans and loved ones, bringing a few special guests to the stage. “She hates when I do this, but I’d like to welcome my wife to the stage, to help me sing this song I wrote for her”, Franti said at one point, as him and his wife sang Life Is Better With You while the crowd melted into all the happy, lovey feels. But the highlight of the show was a five year old girl named Sophie, who was chosen out of the crowd to help Franti sing Sound Of Sunshine. When asked what she does for a living, Sophie confidently said, “I sing!”, with Franti responding, “Me too!”. A permanent grin was on Franti’s face the entire concert, and it’s safe to say the crowd mimicked his passion and love for the music he performed.
